In collaboration with Pursuits Network, Temperance Johnson, is very excited to offer her services remotely to assist, coach, and motivate young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in the Boulder area.
Temperance is an Autism Specialist and Doctoral Candidate in School Psychology with Walden University. She works directly with children and adolescents with ASD in El Paso, Texas with the Socorro Independent School District, where she offers social skills training, parenting consultations, and provides training to support staff. She speaks to parents, educators, and clinicians locally, and is a Board Member for the El Paso County Psychological Society. During her two-year doctoral internship in school psychology, she evaluated, assisted, and counseled students who displayed a variety of problems to include emotional, behavioral, or neurobiological. She has extensive knowledge and experience with identifying and diagnosing ASD, and more significantly with providing parents and staff strategies for helping children with ASD become more functionally independent. Temperance’s eleven years of experience in special education has provided her with opportunities to learn how to connect with children, parents, teachers, and administrators. She is expected to earn her Ph.D. in 2013 and is currently conducting a national clinical research study on young adults with ASD. Her other interests are in the fields of mindfulness and interpersonal neurobiology.
Proudly and most importantly, Temperance is a mother of an amazing young lady. She states that parenting is the toughest job ever, but admits it has provided her with numerous opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Her research has helped her become a more mindful, loving, and intentional parent. She and her daughter both channel stress and have fun by being creative. They enjoy physical activities such as swimming, running, yoga, and playing with their two Goldendoodles, Lilly and Zoey.
